Spring Travel Teams cancelled

Coronavirus update on Spring Teams

Team Angle players and parents,

Travel volleyball has been a part of my life since 1993.  I thought I had seen it all, but this coronavirus is a brand new event.  It is the nature of our sport to gather groups of people into buildings to play volleyball.  This is the same behavior the CDC and the governor are warning us to avoid.  Our coaches have discussed this and we cannot support Team Angle contributing to the spread of this virus.

We are cancelling this Spring season for travel volleyball teams.  It is only volleyball.  The safety of our players, families and coaches is our number one concern.  We can do volleyball later, when this virus is not a threat.  If we get to a point during this Spring season where the virus is not a threat, we will provide a training program for our players to get something out of this Spring season.

Right now, we are still planning on doing the Angle Academy which is all in house training in small groups.  This training does not start until after Spring break, so it could also be cancelled based on the spread of this virus.  We would encourage our travel team players to participate in the Academy.  We will be contacting health professionals to make sure we are practicing in a safe way.  If we can practice safely, we will.

You are welcome to tryout with another club, but I really think many, most or all of the events with large groups of people will be cancelled this Spring.  We will see, but the current high school, college and pro sports that are being effected are probably a key indicator of what we should expect for club volleyball.   The major tournaments going on over the next 2 weekends are already cancelled or postponed.

We will have our beach club volleyball this Summer from mid June to late July.  If this virus has cleared up by then, we will also offer indoor training and competition in June and July to prepare our players for the Fall school season.

We appreciate all of you very much.  We hope to be doing what is best for everyone with this step.  Any feedback is really appreciated.

Thank you,

Coach Smillie - Team Angle

Travel volleyball without a lot of travel

We have helped produce many state champions, all state and collegiate players without having to drive too far.  We have great competition locally and we have found that you don't need to travel far to produce champions.  All competitions will be in the Grand Rapids or Muskegon area except for older National teams that could travel 2-5 hours away once or twice.

We will only have a few teams this Spring.  We are trying to create a quality product for you by keeping it small.  Anyone not making a team is welcome to be part of Team Angle Academy that practices and plays 2 days per week or we can help you find a spot on another area travel team.

Extra training opportunities

Spring Travel Teams will practice twice per week on the weeknights, after school sport practices have finished.  We will schedule around Spring sports, so everyone has minimal conflicts.  Travel team players have options to practice extra days per week at Team Angle Academy sessions.
